TRAINING IN THAILAND — SNAKES, THE HOT SUN, AND CRAZY DRIVERS
While running around home requires you to take the weather into account, along with the occasional angry dog chasing you along the road, then in Thailand you also have to take into account snakes, the hot sun, and crazy drivers.
On one of my training days I met a king cobra, whom I nearly stepped onto. The 1.5 meter snake had decided to cross the road just as I was running through. A local said that you only have 5 minutes to get help if bitten by that snake.
Within the last 4 hours, a person died before my very eyes, only 80 meters away. I was finishing up the final hour of my run, and when I reached a city on the island of Koh Samui, I saw a local man on a scooter just plain drive in front of a car, and the guy and his scooter smashed the ground hard. He died right on the spot. The ambulance got there, but it was useless by then.
