183 KILOMETERS, 11 DAYS, 40 DEGREES OF HEAT
In Thailand I got to train for a total of 11 days, and I experienced something new yet again. Training in the heat is currently the only way to ensure completing the desert marathon with the best personal results. This is important, to experience a similar moment that’ll be waiting for me.
I experienced nearly 80% humidity and up to 40 degrees of heat in Thailand, which was completely unbearable for the first week. My pulse climbed fast at the very start of a run and it was difficult to choose an appropriate pace. It felt more difficult to breathe than usual. I also realized how much water I really need to go through.
Altogether I ran 183 km in Thailand, or a little over two laps around the entire island.
My observation: if the sun is directly overhead, then there’s no running without 50 spf cream, it’s a serious challenge!
To finish off the trip I can say that I’m glad to be home! This has been two weeks of experience. The trip ended with about an hour of circling above Tallinn, as the plane couldn’t land due to thick fog. I’m alive and well, and it’s good to be back home.
